In every bowl of curry, in every handmade dumpling, in every dish we serve—there’s a story.
Kampung Malaysian Cuisine isn’t just another restaurant in a food court. It’s a living piece of Southeast Asia, built on family, tradition, resilience, and the desire to feed people something real.

What “Kampung” Really Means
In Malay, kampung means village—a place where neighbors share meals, families cook together, and every bite carries heritage. It’s a concept of warmth, community, and simplicity.
That’s the spirit behind our restaurant: no-frills, authentic food that feeds the soul.
From Home Kitchen to Jusgo Food Court
The journey to Kampung Malaysian Cuisine started years ago in a home kitchen filled with the aromas of lemongrass, turmeric, curry leaves, and garlic.
Chef Mary, the heart and hands behind Kampung, began cooking in her early teens under the guidance of her mother. They didn’t use measuring cups. They didn’t write anything down. Recipes were passed from generation to generation through practice, instinct, and repetition.
Today, those same methods live on in every dish she prepares.
Who Is Chef Mary?
A culinary powerhouse with over 30 years of experience, Chef Mary is more than just a cook. She is:
A master of traditional Malaysian curry
An expert in Chinese and Thai techniques
A believer in cooking from the heart
A volunteer who has donated her time and food to local charities and community causes
Her spice blends are not written down. She keeps them all in her head—protecting family traditions and ensuring every dish is made with her personal touch.
That’s why no one else can replicate what we do.
Why We Focus on Curry, Noodles, and Soups
Our menu at Kampung centers around the heart of Malaysian cuisine:
Curry – rich, aromatic, and slow-cooked with house-ground spices
Noodles – from crispy Yee Mee to slurpy Penang Curry Mee
Soups – hot, comforting, and layered with flavor
These are the dishes that bring comfort to millions across Southeast Asia—and now to our customers in Duluth.
Halal, Family-Friendly, and Foodie-Approved
We believe good food should be for everyone. That’s why we serve:
✅ 100% Halal Chicken & Beef✅ Vegetarian and Vegan Dishes✅ Kid-Friendly, No-Spice Options✅ Hearty Pork Dishes for Dim Sum Fans
Every guest, every culture, and every dietary preference is welcome here. Because in a kampung, nobody eats alone.
A Rebrand With Purpose
Some of our longtime fans remember us as Zhang’s BBQ Chicken. But as we evolved and focused more on our Malaysian roots, we knew it was time for a change.
Kampung isn’t just a name—it’s our identity. It reflects who we are, where our food comes from, and what we want to offer Duluth: a true taste of Malaysia.
Why We Don’t Cut Corners
At Kampung, you won’t find:
Pre-made sauces
MSG
Mass-produced broths
Outsourced dumplings
Instead, you’ll find:
Handmade dumplings and buns
Broth simmered for hours
Freshly ground spices
Real coconut milk curry made in-house
Daily breakfast like pork congee and warm soy milk
When food is made with care, it shows. Our regulars taste the difference—and they come back for it.
